Announcing Faith Deployed Give-Away

FaithDeployed_coverOn September 15, I’m going to draw a name and send a signed copy of Faith Deployed: Daily Encouragement for Military Wives to one lucky woman. :)

To enter the drawing for the give-away, please leave a comment to this post answering the following question: What churches have you found to be supportive of you as a military family? Please give the name of the church and the location (city and/or which post/base it is near) so I can compile a list of churches for readers of this site. Your name will be entered once for each church you list (so if you list three churches and locations, you’ll be entered three times).

Thanks for entering!

  1. We attended Wynnton United Methodist Church in Columbus, GA when we were at Fort Benning. When we were at the Army JAG school in Charlottesville, VA we attended Crozet United Methodist. They were excellent and had a great pre-school also.

  2. We attend Northern Lights Chapel (military protestant chapel) at Ft. Wainwright. I really like worshiping with the military community. A few other churches in Fairbanks that are popular with military families are Friends Church (community/nondenominational), Door of Hope Church (community/nondenominational), and Lord of Life Lutheran Church.

  3. We are members of RockFish Church in Raeford, NC. http://www.RockFishChurch.com We are located just a few miles from Ft. Bragg, NC. Our congregation is largely military related…active duty, retired, contractors. We have a small group called “Military at the CROSS” which has a Mens group and a Ladies group. I am a co-leader of the Ladies group with 5 other military wives. The military family is one of the main focus points for our church, and our vision is to serve the spiritual needs for the families as well as practical needs. We love your book, and will be giving a few away at our Ministry Expo in a couple of weeks. Thank you & Blessings to all :)

  4. We attend Comunidad Cristiana in Tacoma, WA near Ft. Lewis. It is non-denominational. It is primarily spanish speaking but they do translate the sermon via headsets for non-spanish speaking people. There are some retired military families and they are like a second family to us.

  5. I attened a MOPS group at University United Methodist Church in San Antonio, Texas. I gained most of my support from those wonderful women.
Sadly, we have not yet found a church home at our new station here in Colorado. Hopefully, something will come to us before his March deployment.

    • Amy- Have you checked out the First Church of the Nazarene. (Colorado Springs)They have a strong millitary presence. My family goes there. We have been a millitary family basiclly forever.

  6. I am a member at Bay Presbyterian Church in Bay Village, Ohio. Although we aren’t around a base, my husband is Army National Guard, the church still has military-support groups and military recognition. The people were so very friendly and supportive during my husband’s year long deployment.

  7. When we were stationed in Fort Bragg we found Manna church a wonderful place to worship God and was very supportive of military families. Here in Bamberg, Germany we love the protestant service on the chapel here on post, it’s the most wonderful, loving, supportive chapel we’ve been a part of!

  8. Northlake Church of Christ in Tucker, Ga. They were great at sending notes, cards, letters to my husband while he was deployed. They would call me often to see if we needed anything while he was away.

Also, Mayfair Church of Christ in Huntsville, AL. They have a M.O.R.E. ministry (military outreach & encouragement) that supports those deployed by sending cards and letters.

  9. LaGrange Bible Church in LaGrange, IL (near west suburb of Chicago). It is a very welcoming church to families, couples & singles with a number of current and former members serving in the military. It is not near a base but easy to get plugged into and have a second family as you & or your spouse serve in the Reservist or National Guard.

Edgewater Baptist Church has been a great place to worship and serve at while my husband is at Ft. Sheridan, IL. Lots of ministries for kids too!

Central Fellowship Baptist Church is in Macon, GA near Warner Robins Air Force Base. They are also a great church and many members are either in the airforce or work there with civilian jobs. They are aware of the struggles familes can have when seperated for a time.

  10. I forgot to mention that Edgewater Baptist Church is on the far north side of Chicago, IL in the Edgewater neighborhood. It’s 40 minutes from Ft. Sheridan

  11. We attend ABC Church in Colorado Springs CO. My husband’s been in the Army for just shy of 7 yrs now. We have 3 wonderful children 2 girls ages 8 and 4 and a 6 month old boy. We are currently 7 months through are first deployment.

  12. we are members to Hillcrest Baptist church of El Paso, Texas. This church has been very supportive of our military families here at Ft. Bliss, Texas. They regularly hold events and classes for military families.

Also, Sunrise Baptist Church along with Eastside Baptist Church, both of El Paso, texas are two good churches that are supportive and active in the military community.

My husband has been deployed for 5 months now and is on his 4th tour of duty to include Kosovo and operation iraqi freedom and operation enduring freedom. We have 3 boys, 10, 8, and 6 and a daughter, 8.

  13. Hi All!

At the moment I have been attending a few churches while visiting my folks in Evergreen, Colorado just up in the foothills and thirty minutes West of Denver. I have been going to Conference Baptist Church (my families old church), and Lookout Mountain Community Church (my folks church now) and they do good at supporting the military. I also havn’t been involved with any base around the area in Colorado except I did visit Fort Carson a few years ago.
I mainly have been at Northside Baptist Church in Nolanville, Texas: which is near Fort Hood, Texas where I live and my husband is stationed ( he has been deployed to Iraq for seven months now and has another close to four months left, Lord willin’). Northside is a military church and mainly has military folks attend and has many military functions including “Wives in Waiting” for military spouses who’s husbands are deployed, it has been very helpful for me. It also has a quilting group which I enjoy as well. Just very nice folks and community life and family focused within the whole church setting.
I also went to Hillcrest Baptist Church when Bill was stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas, just last year. They had quite a few military folks there as well and a good support sunday school we attended for younger married couples and we felt supported.
We had just got married right before the Fort Bliss adventure in December of ’07 and now have a baby who is just seven months old at the moment so its been an interesting and a whirlwind two years. My husband, Bill has been in the Army for just about fifteen years so we got married almost at the end of his career so that is helpful as well, since he can get me more informed about the military life, since I am totally new to. He has also been stationed in Germany, Desert Storm, and this is his around his fourth tour in Iraq so he has been seeing the world with his job.

  14. I actually work at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church in Fayetteville, NC near Fort Bragg. My neighbor is actually the director for the Military Family Ministries/Outreach. There are tons of military families who attend this church and they have activities and support groups for us. More info. at: snydermbc.com

  15. When we lived in Texas we attended my brothers church Kings and Priest Christain Ministries then we moved her to Wi and attended Sun Prairie Community church and now we are worshiping the Lord at Livinghope Fellowship and have been supportive during my husbands deployment and now teach the children about the Lords grace and love.

  16. I currently attend Cornerstone Fellowship in Mililani Mauka, Hawaii. I found from day 1 that this was a church that is very supportive of military families. While my husband was deployed, a group of ladies would watch my children once a month on a Saturday (I have 5 children which includes a set of boy triplets so it was quite a feat to get a babysitter.) The ladies ministry and a small group would send care packages out to anyone from our church who was deployed. Once my husband was diagnosed with cancer while deployed, the church again stepped up to the plate and helped get our family through it. It isn’t just my family they help though!

  17. When we were stationed at Ft. Hood, TX we found a wonderful church home. Memorial Baptist Church in Killeen, TX. Not only is the church welcoming and loving to each of it’s many families, they also have a school attached to the church building (Memorial Christian Academy), which has many military families that attend.

    Other great churches have been:

High Pointe Community Church in Puyallup, WA

Liberty Baptist Church in Spring Lake, NC (Fayetteville)

  18. We are members of Cornerstone Fellowship in Milliani Hawaii. And we love it beyond words.

  19. West Evangelical Free Church in Wichita, Kansas (McConnell AFB)

  20. Our first duty station in the army was at Ft. Bliss TX and I have to say that Hope Chapel (on base) was one of the best churches I have ever attended. I met so many great woman there and was moved so much I chose to be baptised there!

  21. Severns Valley Church in Elizabethtown, KY. It was great. It was a big church about 20 min. away from Fort Knox. They had a womens military wife bible study that was great. It really helped and was full of wonderful women. It was exactly where I needed to be when we were there. I am so thankful for the women in that bible study.

  22. PWOC in all of our chapels overseas has been an amazing ministry. Darmstadt, was just the most unified chapel I had been to (now a closed base). Here in Mannheim, our chapel is not unified but diversified and its just wonderful too. Of course beinig on military bases, they are supportive of our struggle. My home church, Lindley Community Church, in Lindley, NY has proven to be a solid base for all of my family’s struggles through each and every deployment. Thank you so much for this. I would love to have a signed copy to give to a friend.

  23. I currently attend Calvary Assembly of God in Carthage, NY near Ft. Drum. I attended Fairbanks Assembly of God in Fairbanks, AK when we lived on Ft. Wainright. I attended Grace Community Church in Universal City near Ft. Sam Houston. All three churches are very supportive of our military, especially us wives with deployed hubands! Thanks for this opportunity to win this book for free!!

  24. My home church, St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Wellsboro, PA, has been very supportive during this deployment. I moved back to Wellsboro to be with my family and to give birth to our son while my husband is in Iraq with his North Carolina Army National Guard unit. Our church has been wonderful, and has been praying for my husband and the troops everyday. They were also very accommodating when we scheduled my son’s baptism on very short notice, based on his daddy’s leave schedule. Thankfully, with lots of prayer, my husband was able to come home, meet his son, and be present for his baptism only three weeks after his birth! We have also attended mass at St. Patrick Catholic Church and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, both in Fayetteville, NC. It is so nice to have welcoming churches when we have to be at Fort Bragg for trainings and deployments. It’s also nice to have options to attend mass both on weekends and during the week. Thank you to all three churches, for your continued support of my family, and the other military families as well.

  25. I have a church that when i go home i always attend called Christian Congergation in Alexandria IN. They are not near any military base but they are always very supportive and growing up going to the church i felt like i could always call it mine!! While my husband was in school and Iraq that was my main church. The church that we currently attend is Gloryland harvest church in Radcliff KY. They have alot of members that are either veterans for active duty! They are very supportive and always there no matter what time of day it is!

  26. In Anchorage, Alaska the Anchorage Baptist Temple is a very military loving church! they send the soldiers care packages and letters and give support to the spouses back home. They have MOPS for moms of preschoolers and also provide random days around the holidays for moms to drop their kids off for free to shop and get things done. they have a sunday school class for every age group and many activities for all ages. their sunday school classes are from 10am to 11am and a church service at 11am to 12pm and sunday night at 6pm and wednesday nights at 7:30pm.
i will be glad to meet up with anyone who wants to attend.

  27. Cascade Hills Church in Columbus, Georgia. We were stationed at Benning, and that church changed our lives. Wish I could find something like it here in Leavenworth!

  28. In Virginia Beach, where we are now, Reality Church (realitychurch.com) has been immeasurably supportive.

While we were in Helena, MT, the church we called home was Hanaford Street Bible Church…and they were VERY supportive, as well.

  29. I was a part of the family (ohana) of New Hope Mililani (Foursquare Gospel denomination) near Schofield Barracks, Oahu, Hawaii in Jan 2004 – Jan 2005, while my husband deployed to OIF. They were amazingly supportive, so much that they welcomed my husband home with open arms without even knowing him!

I also found Community Covenant Church in Fairbanks, Alaska (derived from Lutheran) near Ft Wainwright to be a blessing while my husband deployed a second time to OIF in Sept 2008 – Aug 2009.

And finally during this second OIF deployment, I visited my family for about 7 months & attended Church of the Holy Spirit Orchard Hills in Troutville, Virginia.

Everyone was so supportive! God bless all our troops & families!

  30. In Columbus, GA, I attended Harvest Faith Community Church (Nazarene) and found them incredibly supportive. We’re in Hawaii now and I attend Pacific Islands Bible Church (non-denom) in Mililani near Schofield Barracks and have found wonderful support.

  31. Settler’s Bay Community Church in Wasilla, Alaska is absolutely wonderful. It’s an hour drive from Fort Benning (Army base in Anchorage) and Elmendorf Air Force Base. However, many military families live in Wasilla and attend. The people are great!

On post in Fort Benning, Georgia is another wonderful church. It is a very large church near main street. Everybody is really friendly and the church does a lot. I can’t remember the name, it was built about 4 years ago.

  32. I haven’t been to a church that hasn’t been personally supportive, but as an organized church effort, none. However because of our family and several others, first assemmbly of god in gainesville florida is becoming more proactive in some larger ways.

  33. We attended and became members of Harvest Faith Community Church in Columbus GA (7777 whitesville road Columbus Ga 31904) when we were stationed at Fort Benning, GA. The pastor is retired army and he and his wife have at true heart for military families. They saved our family in more than one way! That church and the church family are amazing. Definately worth a visit!

  34. St Andrew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church near Fort Huachuca, AZ.

  35. I’ve only been stationed at two places so far; Ft. Wainwright, AK and Ft. Bragg, NC. We would go back and forth between a Baptist Church and the chapel on post. I really love attending Chapel Next here at Bragg.

  36. Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, KY. Very friendly church with a large variety of support groups, bible studies, children’s programs, etc. The groups are not military specific, but there seems to be groups to fit any need out there.

  37. Manna Church Fayetteville, NC near Pope AFB and Fort Bragg, NC

  38. We haven’t worked the nerve to go anywhere off post, so we just go to Chapel services on Fort Riley, I am anxious to see your list!!

  39. Chapel Hill Community Baptist Church, in Chapel Hill TN, close to Arnold AFB in Tullahoma, TN is a loving, kind group of people who love their military members.

  40. My family and I go to Myrtle Lake Baptist Church in Land O Lakes Florida. My husband was stationed at MacDill AFB. We love MLBC! They welcomed us with open arms when we got here. There are other military famililes that are members as well and we always feel very special and appreciated for the jobs that our Soldiers do!

  41. Golden Acres Baptist Church in Phenix City AL when we were stationed at Fort Benning Ga. Wonderful church with the friendliest people you can find.

Also Severns Baptist in Etown, KY when we were stationed at Ft Knox was wonderful!
