A little background: As a Coast Guard wife living in Alaska, I had been haunted by the sense that I was just tagging along with my husband, following his orders for the next move, with no apparent life purpose of my own. Frankly, I felt like my identity was eclipsed by his military title. But when I discovered all that God had to say to me personally in His word about what I was going through as a military wife, I was amazed at how relevant the Bible was to my situation.
That experience led me to recruit 14 other Christian military wives from all branches of service to put together a book of devotions squarely addressing from a biblical perspective all the issues the military wife faces. Faith Deployed: Daily Encouragement for Military Wives was released by MoodyPublishers in 2008.
Since then, I’ve also been able to co-author a book in the Battlefields & Blessings series: Stories of Faith and Courage from the War in Iraq/Afghanistan (AMG Publishres 2009). By sharing the inspiring stories of other military members and their families, I hope readers are encouraged and strengthened in their own faith. You can find excerpts from both books through the links at right. Finally, I edited and contributed to Stories of Faith and Courage from World War 2 by Larkin Spivey, a 2009 Military Writers Society of America Silver Medal Winner.

I have really enjoyed your book, “Faith Deployed’. As a veteran Coast Guard “underway” wife I have found it encouraging and refreshing. Thank you!

Thanks for your comment! I am trying hard to get involved here like you said, it keeps me busy! I am so glad that you got to spend time with your husband, backpacking sounds like fun! Right now we are just waiting on God’s timing for a baby and enjoying each other!

“Faith Deployed” is excellent! My wife Jamie and I have read it, I have mine noted, high-lighted, and noted some more. I want you to know also we use “Faith Deployed” as one of our standard, “go to” texts in our ministry, Cedar Valley Point Man and Home Front Ministry as we work with both veterans and their families. Thank God someone, specifically a wife with writing abilities, was sensitive to the Holy Spirit, to follow His leading and respond and obey.

Fortunately my deployments in the USAR and National Guard were during a great period of growth and noncombat war in the United States. I found your site from Twitter and was quickly reminded how many men and women have loved ones state side who need encouragement and support. God Bless everyone who reads this and if anyone ever needs a friend who has been there, please find me on twitter. God is with you all.

Wow! I was given a copy of your book this summer the the day my family was throwing a “deployment party” for my hubby. His orders which were “on hold” had been changed 5 times to 4 different countries (twice to one country:) but we figured what the heck he’s gotta be going somewhere. We had been married a little over a year and I was in tears, at the party I used my brave smile, & for weeks after.
I would like to thank the you and the awesome women who contributed to this book. It taught me that it is not my husbands confusing communication skills, but that military life is….. changeable. The best part is I now feel hope. Hope because if other people can do this than so can I.
Peace, holly

I am pretty new to all the military stuff. My husband joined several years ago at the age of 36. That is pretty old for joining the Army Reserve, however, he believes that that is his calling at this moment in time. I am a firm believer that you need to continue with where God leads you. This has not been an easy career change on me. He has been called to active duty with a transporation company. He has been gone on some training or anther since June and the kids and I have seen very little of him. Last week, we were able to spend his last 4 day leave, until he return for his 2 week R&R in the midst of his year long deployment. It is encouraging to have found a this site, where devotion, strength and encouragement is given on a daily basis. I never imagined it would be so difficult to let my husband go to a dangerous place to do a dangerous job. I am blessed to have a work enviorment that supports my faith and my husband’s mission fully. I have not read any of your books, but will be seeing which ones would be best to start with. I do know that my husband will be leaving within the next 3-4 days and then the uncertainty comes. I am a little scared of this part, when will we talk to him again, will we know when he is out doing a dangerous mission, and all the other unknowns. I will continue to seek peach through God, as he is the only one who can give that to me.
I just want to thank you again, for setting up this site for people like me to come to for encouragement and strength.
God bless you and all the soldiers and families. Thank you for all you do!!
Sincerely,
Arline
